Brake pad pin torque setting question

THE STORY :ahhh: :
So I just replaced the rear brake pads on my bike (never done it myself before). The workshop manual tells me to tighten the the pad pin to 10Nm. That's a hell of a lot of Nm when you've only got an allen key with 3 inch handle (I unscrewed it by levering a ring spanner on the end of the allen key).

Is that much torque really necessary? The pin has a locking screw behind it and there are no forces that are going to try and unscrew it.

THE QUESTION  :
Has anyone ever had a failure caused by insufficient torque on the pad pin?

You probably would be ok just making sure it's tight, and putting the locking cap on...

There's really no force on the pins that would make the come out.

The bolts take considerably more force to break free than they do to tighten. Don't judge the torque by how much it takes to break free. Don't forget to use anti-seize on them. If you don't have any anti-seize laying around but really truely worship your shop manual, you'll probably have some moly paste which works equally well.

10 nm isn't much torque. With a 3 inch allen you can probly do it by hand, maybe a light hammer tap.
