Can I set up my suspension or do I need a shop?

A buddy of mine took his 02 to a local suspension shop to be set and revalved etc.

The difference is night and day.

My bike in comparison is very firm and more difficult to ride. I get some kick from the forks and slow rebound on the rear shock.

Should I just take it in or work on setting it up myself?

Info:
My weight 195
Bike 2000 RM 250
Suspension is stock
Skill level is intermediate
I ride mostly flat sandy tracks with some woods riding and a little bit of jumping.

Thanks.

You can do it yourself but it all depends on how much you think you know. Do you know how to service a shock or a set of forks? If you dont it's cheaper and easier to have someone who knows what there doing set up your bike.

If you haven't even played with the clickers (the external adjustments on your fork and shock), you should definitely record how they are set now and then experiment. You can always return to the original settings.
