The 50 would have been my guess too.
Didnt everyone start out on one of those things???? :)
My first ride was a '70 Z50AK2.
One of the only 2 years ('70 & '71) that the "fiddy" was considered a "dualsport".
Yep, they were actually street legal back then!
Just dont take one out on the interstate..........

"Heavy as a tank".?????
Can a 50 be heavy???

Where did you find the production figures Smit-Dog?
I am curious as how the XR70R stacks up against the 50R saleswise.
We just sold my son's RM60 (it was just TOO wild for him, and he just could NOT get the hang of the clutch) so were gonna use the cash for a downpayment on a new XR70R!!! :)
It should be more my.......er ah.....that is uh HIS speed.
heh heh :yeehaw:
And hopefully not as LOUD as that 60 was......yeesh!

I was at a Parts Unlimited ride event last weekend. An industry rep quoted me that figure.

My son had an XR-50, now has an XR-70, and will be stepping up to an XR-80 next spring. Great line of bikes!

I still have a '74CT70K3, fully restored, but with a 88cc big bore kit, bigger carb, & a k&n style cone filter. Im about to get a Z50 from a friend of a friend, and get started on a mini-motard.

My first 50 was a "Sprout Green" 1970 Honda QA-50. That was Honda's official color description. I remember my dad loosening and dropping the handlebars to fit it in the trunk. There was a quick disconnect on it.

32 years later, I got my son a 2001 XR-50. Didn't have to put it in a trunk though.

I think the best selling honda for kids is, the fiddy, and for the kids at heart, the fiddy again with maybe the fourfiddy coming in second.

I bought 40 of them myself. :) If you had seen the Dirtweek Pit Bike race, you'd understand why they're so popular.

OAS, the '70 and '71 Z50s are K1 models. The K2 was started in '72. The k1 version had no rear suspension, but the '72 K2 had rear shocks.

Youve got the years right, but the "K"'s model change designations off a bit.
1968-'69 = Z50A
Late'69-'70= Z50AK1
1970-'71= Z50AK2 (last year hardtail frame)
1972 = Z50AK3 (first year for new chassis -w- rear suspention.)

Suposedly this chassis lasted from '72 until '78.
After that the "A" designation changed to "R" and the chassis reportedly got some minor changes. (????)
The only thing i could tell was different after '79 was the wheels!
(are wheels considered a chassis part on fiddies??? LOL )
Seat, bars and fenders were different too i guess.

Although i think i'll stick -w- 6 fiddies for now. :)

Uhhh, yeah. That's what I said.

The 1970 K1/K2 split year model numbers cornfuse me every time. The K5 designation was the last time Honda used the "K" as a model designator. Was that 1978?

The K5 was a '74.
The last 50 to use the "K" deignation was 1975 as the Z50AK6.
'76, '77, & '78 were just "Z50A" followed by the model year.
Z50R was '79 and later.

Oh, and i guess i was wrong about the '70 & '71 Z's being the only streetable 50.
The '88 ZB50 was road legal too.
Ever see one of these cuties?
Twinspar type frame, pro-link suspention, tri-spoke mag wheels, street racer bodywork, turn signals and all! :thumb:
