Can't Hook Up Clutch Cable?

So i just bought a 2001 cr250 it was in rough shape nothing was hooked up.

So i finally got it running there is still smoke coming out of the cylinder though= not sure why


But anyways here is my question to get the bike moving I need to hook up the new clutch cable because I can't get the clutch lever to pull in for the life of me its really stiff! I tried to adjust it and nothing!

So I ordered a new one i hooked it up on the bottom side and it's like millimeters from hooking up on the lever side. I'm seriously stuck here i've pried the clutch lever on the bottom side fully up and it still wont make it.

Could the clutch lever be from a different bike?
I Won't know what I'm doing if i start looking at the clutch

If you ever get it working you should look for a clutch lever assembly that has a shorter radius from the pivot point to the cable end so that its easier to pull . I did that for my 89 CR250 because the clutch pull was too stiff for me.
