Also, I noticed in my manual that the bike uses a "DAIDO D.I.D 520DMA2 114 LINK chain".
Does that mean any chain will work as long as its 520 and 114?? And what the heck is the "DAIDO D.I.D"??????? is that the brand that it uses stock or something?
Yes you need a 520 width chain with 114 links. Forget the Daido DID that's just the name of the OEM replacement, but any chain with those specs should fit.
520 is the size, Daido is a brand and 114 is the number of links stock. If you change the number of teeth on either sprocket, the number of links will change, although the chain tension adjustment usually leaves room to adjust for 1 or two links. O-ring chains cost more but usually last longer.
I have a Renthal R3 on my 2004 KX 250 and it is a little wide for the front sprocket. It wore a little groove in the case :(. Its no biggie if you dont mind a little groove. I think x-ring chains might not be as wide.
Most chains come in a standard 120 link length so if you add teeth to the rear or front you can cut the chain to the length you need.
