Changing brands of oil

I just bought a 93 KDX 200 and I've been told the original owner only used Turco synthetic oil. This stuff is real hard to find in my area. Would there be any repercussions of changing brands yet sticking with a synthetic oil? I assume if I change brands I'd have to drain the engine first.

Are you refering to the transmission oil or the 2-cycle oil?

If transmission oil - Draining the engine oil is something you are going to do on a regular basis so I don't see the issue. I run plain-old 10w-40 and have never had any problems. The case was split this past winter and everything looked new.

If 2-cycle - The engine oil and premix have nothing to do with each other.

Oil is one of those subjects that gets beat to death on every forum at DRN. A quick search will have you reading for hours.

Mixing types of oil, or changing types of oil is generally not a good idea.

As jag said, if syn, stick with it. If petroleum based, stick with it.

Failure to do that (the sticking part) may well lead to clutch failure.

Sounds like you have that in mind. So, all this to say.........I agree with you!
