If you are close to the Fremont National Forest area in Southern Oregon or the Upper South Platte area in Colorado where the Hayman fire was last season they are looking for volunteers.

Volunteer Opportunities
ARRA wants to be a resource to its members and to public lands managers struggling to recover from last year’s devastating fires. The costs of fighting fires last year was expected to exceed $2 billion. An extraordinary part of the Forest Service budget will be devoted to these costs.
This new addition to the website will alert you, your friends and your local riding clubs and organizations to post-fire recovery volunteer opportunities. You can help prevent further degradation of burned areas by assisting in ongoing erosion control efforts (spreading straw and seed) and offering to help with the reforestation efforts this Spring.
Assisting public lands managers does not go unnoticed. Your efforts are recognized at the local level and the good deeds go a long way in promoting the image of responsible recreationists in the Washington, D.C. offices of the U.S. Departments of Interior (BLM and National Park Service) and Agriculture (Forest Service).
Rally the riders! Bring your gear, your energy and your dedication to the land!

Hayman Burn Volunteer Opportunities
Information on volunteer assistance is being coordinated by the Coalition for the Upper South Platte (CUSP). Trail Maintenance on Fremont National Recreation Trail-Southern Oregon
ARRA has the solution for your late winter blues and for shedding those winter pounds - This spring, plan to help rehabilitate the Fremont National Recreation Trail in the Fremont National Forest in southern Oregon. Of the 170 miles of trail, there are at least 55 miles of trail in need of maintenance as a result of the devastating fires last summer.
This spring there are expected to be more than 100 downed trees per mile of trail which need to be cleared. Volunteers who are willing to run a chainsaw need to attend a chainsaw certification course in advance of volunteer work on the trail. Certification classes will be scheduled sometime this spring. Plan to camp in primitive conditions for the duration of the work days. Access to supplies and lodging is extremely limited in this part of Oregon. Sound like fun?
