Hey guys! Racing season is almost here in MA. About a month and a half to go. I was just wandering if anyone had any cornering tips or techniques on carrying speed through all kinda of corners. Flats, bermed, off camber, and flat corners with rut-bermed lines. Ive heard lots of methods, so whats the best way? Also.. how do people take the most inside line and haul through it?

One of the most efficient methods is to practice Figure 8's. As the name implies, find an area and lay out a figure 8 course, and begin making laps. In essence you are creating a scenario where you are constantly tackling a turn. This serves as a effective means of muscle memory and mental reinforcement. You can vary the terrain and surface to experience different situations. As for techniques, just work on the basics: outside elbows out, weight outside foot peg, lean head in to the turn ( one of the lesser known, but highly effective means to aid getting the lean in the turn) and looking through the turn. These are the just the basics of course, but they serve as the foundation underwhich you will safely negotiate any turn. You should spend most of your time working on techniques that allow you refine the art of riding smooth arcs, which allow you to maintain momentum. For example, complete all braking before entering the turn, and then rolling on the throttle as you enter the turn. Line selection that allows you to fascilitate this is important. This is a major tactic to develop in riding a bike such as the KDX, since most of the competition will be aboard theoretically faster bikes. Its also easier on you and the bike. Some braking sliding, coming to a dead stop and then blasting away needs to be worked on too since some conditions cannot be tackled any other way.
