so when i am coming through the berm i have been putting my weight on the outside peg and sitting up high on the seat to keep my weight forward. is this basically all you can do?

Inside leg forward and up, smooth acceleration all the way through the turn, look well ahead, and keep one or two fingers on the clutch to get the RPMs up if needed.

Thats pretty cool, he wants to learn to turn before learning to ride a wheelie. Try riding wheelies between turns. :)
