I have a 2001 cr 125 and a 96 cr 125 and I am starting to do motorcross I have bought both use. I have the 2001 that has a fat boy pipe on it and that is it and have raced it and the 96 which is piped and has reeds and I am racing where I use 2nd and 3rd gears the most. In the 2001 the pipe woke up the top end in 4th and 5th but did nothing for the 2nd and 3rd gears compared to the 96 which is much faster in 2nd and 3rd then the 2001. The question is then what do I do to make the 2001 as fast in 2nd and 3rd gear. Any advice would be great cause racing 40lbs less on the 2001 is alot easier on my old body.

PS I don't want to spend a ton of money but I not looking for the cheapest way out either.

Thanks

40lbs less on the 01 are you sure? Im not sure how many years forward the 96 cyl will go. I have heard of riders using that years jug for newer bikes.Maybe and option? Without motorwork I would think bolt ons wont get your 01 the bottom the 96 had,but the 01 handles pretty well.suspension is good. an fmf gnarly will bring up the bottom a good bit at the expense of top and on a 125 you cant give up top, so I would want to maybe get some motorwork and learn to abuse the 01 clutch like a 125 should be abused.
