CR 250 compression specs

Hi,

Does anyone know a ballpark figure for compression for a 1995 CR 250. I am having a hard time finding anything on line and Honda doesn't give any specs. Anyh help would be greatly appreciated.

My 96cr250 w/ at least a season on it had 210psi. Can you do a compression test on it?

Hi,

Just did one warm the other day, and came up at only 165 psi. It still starts first kick every time and has all the low end I need and then some. Hopefully with any luck it'll be enough to get me thru to winter and then I planned on doing a top end anyway. Do you think 165 is decent? I just came off a 125 where 120 was consedered good and am not sure on general ranges for 250's.

I thought 180 was the lower limit for the 250?

I had 200 psi at 6000 ft when I did my top end last. I always take my compression with the bike cold.

My 94 KX250 always pulled 210 PSI with a fresh topend at 4200 ft. My YZ pulls 235 PSI at 4200 with a fresh topend. 120PSI seems like a really low figure for a 125.

Did you do the compression test with the throttle wide open?

Hi Studboy,

Sorry for not replying sooner, I've been having computer issues.
Yes....I always do compression tests with the throttle wide open. I spoke to Steve the other day down at Lindsey and he felt that was good compression. He said he wouldn't do a new top end until it was around 130.
Hey, any chance you or anyone you know has been down to Little Sahara in the last few weeks? We were hoping to go this weekend but were looking for a snow update. Let me know if you have any recent updates. Keep on Roostin!!!!!!!!!

165 is pretty low. I ran my 99 top end two years and the compression was still over 210psi. I would tear the top end down and measure the parts. It's a much better indicator of wear than compression readings. That way you will have the piece of mind knowing what condition the top end is in, and you can get a baseline compression reading with a fresh top end.

Steve at Lindsey knows what he is talking about.
I was down at Little Sahara about two weeks ago, and it was good then. I'm not sure how the snow is this week (it probably melted off) but last Friday my Dad drove by there and said that there was two feet of snow on the dunes, but with the weather this week my bet is that it all melted or blew away.
