If you want a bike that just sits and idles get a XR100. We had our CR85 to the point where it almost would idle but not quite, I wouldn't waste a lot of time trying to get it to do something it really doesn't need to do. Spend the time getting it to run properly and just blip the throttle.

I also do not know if and where there is an idle adjustment screw on the bike. I have heard that the idle could be adjusted by turning the choke knob but i doubt this because the choke knob spins freely forever in either direction. also , do you have to have the throttle open to adjust idle screw? thanks

Make sure it jetted properly and then turn the screw.

The factory service manual might be your best friend.

my 03 idled perfectly if its spinning freely then somethings wrong with the nob some times in the 03s those nobs broke off i dont know why but look into the carb and see if you can see it going in and out and make sure your not turning the air mixture screw because that would be bad.

I might be wrong...but you aren't supposed to "spin" the choke knob last time I checked.

It has two positions, on and off. You lift it to start/warm the engine, and press it down when things are ready to go.

Exactly like Patman said (and he knows what he is saying!!!) these bikes don't need to sit and idle.

didnt realize that you said choke and no that shouldnt be spun to change the idle if it does then there is something very wrong. its a little knob that can also be spun with a flat head but just as easy with your fingers because it sticks out. I went thru a crazy amount of pistons when i didnt let it idle i thought it was cool till i realized it was killing rings mostly but bad on the piston because the engine stops due to nothing going into to burn unlike when you hit your kill switch when gas and oil is still flowing in lubercating it better.

There is an idle screw on the right side of the carb. 03-04 cr85s are a bit different than the last 05-07s.

Do yourself a favor and read this
http://www.eric-gorr.com/carb cleaning and jetting.pdf

Then purchase the whole book from Eric Gorr to thank him. As an additional benefit you will be able to use the information in the book for most any bike you will have.

There is very little black magic involved but a lot of logical thinking and actual proven methods to getting a bike to run well. It's nothing that can be explained in a few typed lines but if you will take the time to actually try to learn something from a book that you purchase it will give you greater value than what it cost you.

If you want instant satisfaction because doing the right way is too much work then by all means feel free to hack your way to a bike that idles.
