hye guys. i have been lead to believe that my crank seal has gone. my plug keeps fouling and my bike is smoking quite a bit. it also smells a bit unlike regular 2-stroke exhaust (kind of like burning tranny fluid)

Does anyone have a diagram of an engine showing exactly where the crank seal is located? or if someone thinkgs it may be something else, let me know.

It sounds like you are correct in your diagnosis.

For the parts microfiche, you can go to Service Honda or Bike Bandit's websites, and they have them on there. To access the seal, you have to pull the right side cover, the clutch, primary gear etc off. Once in there, you can pop it out, and replace it, then reassemble. A manual helps for the torque values. It isn't too bad to doo, but you normally need an impact to pop the primary drive gear off the crank. A seal remover and seal driver make life easier as well, but with caution, it can be done with improvised tools in their place.

well i have an impact and i have gotten other seals on cars out without a seal remover ;) thanks Timber

does anyone have a link to an exploded view of the engine? or something that can show exactly where the seal is?

bike bandit will have the fiche. its under the primary gear. there is usually a spacer and a seal.

You didn't read my post very thoroughly, or didn't understand what a microfiche is did you? A microfiche is the exploded parts diagrams, and I gave you two places where to find it, and a third has been added.

oh, sorry Timber. you are correct i didnt know what a microfiche but i did look on those sites and didnt get very far.

I just checked, and Bike Bandit actually doesn't have the late 80's CR's on there OEM parts lookup.

If you go to www.servicehonda.com and click on the Genuine Honda Parts Finder on the homepage, and follow it, you can see the microfiche, although it isn't a particularly great image for helping with a teardown, a service manual would be better in that respect.
