hello lads and ladys, dose any one know if the clutch on the cr 500 was changed after 89,i have 2 500s one is in kit form, now the clutch on the 89 has 7 steal plates and 7 friction plates the spare clutch has 8 steal and8 friction plates, now i know the later cr250 has 8 of each, but not sure of the 500,if the clutch is off the 250 would it fit the 500 without fouling the outer casing, much thanks

THE CR500 CLUTCH WENT FROM 7 TO 8 STEELS/FRICTIONS IN '90. THE PLATES ARE THE SAME THOUGH. THE CR 250 USES THE SAME CLUTCH PLATES. I ALWAYS LIKED THE STEEL PLATES OVER THE ALUMINUM IN THE 500 BECAUSE OF THE ADDED INERTIA IN THE DRIVE HELPED SMOOTH THE RESPONCE AND LESSENED STALLING IN THE CORNERS. IT ALSO HELPS WHEN KICK STARTING BECAUSE THE ENGINE SPINS OVER A FEW MORE REVOLUTIONS PER KICK.

Sorry dude, I didn't read carefully enough. The basket, case cover, and cases are different between the '86-'89, and the '90 and up. I don't think it will have the clearance to work.

once again thanks,i made a spacer in work for inbetween the casings,5mm thick,i think that will do it,just put the motor back together, complete bottom and top rebuild, new boysen reeds, all casings are polished to mirror finish, the motor is going into a 99 alloy 250 frame and running gear,to much to have your 500af shiped over here, pity, sorry about my blabbering on,im just a 500 fanatic
