I'm looking at the KTM's and I hear good things about the 300MXC. Would I be happy with the power? Everyone knows that a 500 2 stroke has alot of shake and would I find a smooth running bike with the 300? I'm 6-1 and 255lbs. I would like to stick with a 2 stroke but I may also consider a 525. What bothers me about the 525 is the engine rebuild cost.
As far as the power of a 300MXC is it more than a 250? Thank you for any info! :thumb:

If it helps, the 300 smoked all the 450s in the dirt bike magazine shootout.

Chassis , suspension and braking wise you will find to be better as it has had continued development and the motor will be a bit smoother and it will carry your weight no problem. Its like a 250 but with more torque...you can short shift and ride a gear up where the 250 will die a little the 300 chugs on....other than that no difference it actual speed. Whether you like it enuff after a 500 only you can say. Ride one as see. I think it will fit the bill.

I just bought an 04 300 MXC and can honestly say...I love it!
I'm coming off of an 01 200 MXC...so I can't comment based on the characteristics of the 500.
I know one thing...the weight factor will be big. The 300 only weighs 212 pounds and has a much power down low as most 250-450 four-strokes that I've rode.
The engine comes on strong...but smooth, and has better power delivery than my 200 did (no surprise). I was looking hard at a KTM 450 and a Honda 250 X...but have to admit I'm a "Die Hard" KTMer, and I wasn't ready to go four-stroke.
I would say the power of the 300 is more than a 250...but I'm basing that on a 03 250 EXC. I rode a Suzuki and a Kawaski 250 F (same bike) and I'm much happier with my 300.
Main problem was finding one...that wasn't outragiously priced. The 2004 models are hard to find.
Good prices out there on 2003 models...but the bike was redesigned for 04...based on the SX 250 engine.
The issue I think they're refering to is either the April issue of Dirt Bike magazine or Dirt Rider. In fact, I think both did stories on the bike and called it, "the ultimate 2-stroke woods bike. I ride both woods and MX, so it is a perfect match for me (can't afford two bikes).
I'll reply again with the exact mag. and month.

Hope that helps,

KTMBell

MXC 300 Dirt Bike Issue

Flyboy,
The magazine I have on the 300 MXC is the May 04 issue of Dirt Bike. They compare woods bikes...four-strokes with the 200 EXC and others, then there is an article near the back on the 300 MXC that they title, " Mr. Versatility".
There was another articles in Dirt Rider around the Feb, March , or April time, I just couldn't locate it last night.

Buy an 04 MXC...you'll LUV IT!

Talking strictly engines here, as far as the HP and torque is concerned, the CR500 wins hands down. Especially when modified. If I remember correctly, the 300's make about 46RWHP and the CR500 is around the 55RWHP mark.

Sorry for the error in the previous post, but the 300 KTM makes about 41.5HP.
