:ride: What is the differance between a cr85r and cr85r expert.I know that the expert has bigger wheels on it.Can you make a cr85r into an expert,if so what changes would i need to make.I have 2 (03)cr85r's one stock and one mod with RPM motor and lots of extras.Didn't want to buy another bike before he makes the move to 125's.Thanks for any info
If that is all i need, any idea where i might be able to get the things i need without going thru honda. It's seems like that would be a easy change over. Thanks for any info!!!!
I was told that i could put the bigger wheels on and do the same.Thats what I was trying to figure with out going to a dealer and buying a new bike or a lot of parts. So the rear shock and the forks are the same.If anyone knows where i can find the parts please let me know. Thanks for any help
I would suggest getting the Expert - you can put smaller rims & tires on it without changing the swingarm.
My son is just now on his last year of using his 01CR80R Expert model. He got it new in 01 at age 8 and we put the smaller rims with low profile tires on so he could ride it.
When he got tall enough to use the big wheels we put them back on. Now that he's racing in the 80 JR class here, we went back to the smaller wheels to make him legal for the track.
By buying the Expert model we only had to buy tires, rims & spokes to get 4 plus years of use out of the bike. If you don't want to relace spokes, you could get the whole wheel assembly but that gets spendy.
Just look at the track. many kids get suckered in to buying the expert by their dealer and then find out they cannot race it in regular classes only the supermini classes. then they need to get the small wheels and short swingarm setup. You might find a straight across trade.
Sorry, I didn't read the original post correctly so didn't realize that you already have the standard CR85. Ooops, my bad.
Jasle, when I read the rules for the AMA Classes, I thought the Expert was legal even by AMA standards, the wheelbase is at the maximum but it is legal, at least that's how I read it. We did have to go to the smaller rims though.
