I was torqueing the magneto cover bolts to the specs in the shop manual and they never got tight. I looked at the bolts and they had craked the cover at each bolt hole. Now I know that you can't torque bolts on a plastic cover to 78 inch pounds like the manual calls for. Has anyone else made this stupid mistake? Can you buy a non plastic replacement cover for a reasonable price? And if I need to buy another plastic cover how tight to you need to make these bolts? Thanks

Boysen makes a replacement cover for your KDX. It is made of aluminum so it should be much more durable. You can follow the Boysen link to the left for more information.--Dan

Yes, been there, cracked that. You go a try to do things correctly to the manual and look what happens!! I bought the Boyesen cover which can be torqued to the correct value.
