Been having a heck of a time finding an affordable chain and sprocket set up that actually lasts for my '02 crf 450. Most parts companies that have after market sprockets and chains are either out of stock on what I would like or are so overpriced that I'd rather sit home. Can anyone recommend a set up that 1) lasts 2) doesn't cost an arm and a leg 3) comes from a company that actually has what they advertise in stock. To date have run renthal aluminum with both renthal o-ring and did o-ring. Both stretch like taffy and notch the rear sprocket within about 4 hard rides.

I have had great results with the DID ERT chain and there are several companies that make good quality sprockets at a decent price.

As for availability from internet retailers....these guys are a first class outfit....try them http://mxsouth.com/ if Jeff says he has it ansd it will ship right away it will and if he doesn't have it he will be up front and tell you when he can. For chain and sprockets he would surely have it all in stock

If you are notching out a sprocket of any flavor in four rides using an o-ring chain, then you have an adjustment problem, plain and simple.

Get that worked out before you throw any more money away.

Sprocket specialists Sx series lasted about 5 months of riding every weekend $50 cost for the sprocket and a good chain actually the chain is toast but the sprocket is still good... I switched to Ironman and we will see how long it will last so far two rides..

A little clarification, Greenbean...you paid $50 (retail for a SX) for the SX sprocket alone, yes? Not $50 for it and a good chain. What was this good chain?
The rear sprocket lasted 5 months, yet it is still good? If so, why did you switch to an Ironman?
A trashed chain would more than likely trash the SX series sprocket too.

The Ironman will withstand a bit more torture than the SX series sprocket will, but your chains will not last near as long running it.

A buddy of mine had the same problem. He was running
his chain slack between 40 and 50 mm like his old
2-stroke. Bad idea.

The CRF450F calls for 25-35 mm chain slack. Believe
it. If you don't know how to get your chain slack in this
range, ask. You run looser than this, your rear sproket
teeth will suffer and you will eat up the chain buffer on
your swingarm.

Jaybird,
Yes I paid 50 for the sprocket alone. I swapped it out cause it was a 52 tooth and I am switching to a 50 tooth Ironman. The chain was a RK Xring for 75 bucks and I think the front was 29 bucks.. I did manage a 10 percent discount for the whole setup though. Well the chain did wear out and I replaced it with a non O ring RK for 25 bucks.. I rode like two rides with the new chain until my 50 tooth RK came in.. The sprocket has some wear after about 5 months of riding about twice a week in mostly mud and a little sand riding but it is not worn out yet.
