YZ125 vs. CRF250R

I am really confused. Ok, here are my stats:

Height: 5'4
Weight: 116 lbs.
Age: 14
What I ride: Woods/trails, fields, jumps, roads, sand, mud, just messing around riding with friends.
Budget: Doesn't matter too much.
Skill level: Intermediate
Riding experience: my 2008 CRF100F for over 2 years, friends bikes (RM85, CRF230, CR85)
Maintenance: Don't really mind too much about maintenance.

I found a brand new 2009 CRF150R for $6,000. I do not know the price for the 250 at my dealer.

How do you shorter riders feel on 250s? Is it easy to ride, and do you feel as comfortable riding it compared to a smaller bike? I sometimes do trail riding and I have to put my feet down and stop.

You would struggle in the woods with the 250. The 150r would fit great now but get small in a year or two.

uhhh, doesn't $6,000 sound like to much for a 150r? You should get and 85 (way cheaper than the 150), for a year or two, and then buy a 125 or 250 when you are ready.

$5999 is MSRP for the 150R in Canada so it's certainly no deal but it's not a rip-off either.

if you are just messing around with your friends on CR80 and RM 85 a 150 would probably be fine at first but you wouldnt improve that much from your crf100 riding skills.. youd probly end up selling your 150 after a season or two and youd never get what you paid for it back... have you considered the 230F or the 250X ?

I rode my friends 230, I hated it. Heavy and barely any power.

I did some more research and my coice has come down to the YZ125 or CRF250R. found a brand new YZ125 for $5000 and a used CRF250R for $5,750.

Coming from a four stroke, my guess is you would like the power delivery of the 250f over the 125. I myself had a yz125 and have nothing but good things to say about it. They can be really fun on the track and in pits, but in the trails, your going to have to keep your fingers on the clutch in the tight stuff and up steep hills. Both are awesome bikes, it just depends on how you like your power.

I am 14 and 5'5/5'6 and i ride a 250f... I've only riden it 3 or 4 times now at the track and i'm really getting used to it and i like it, now in the trails i do struggle a little bit but i've only done the trails once since i got my new bike. I went from a DRZ125L similar to your 100f

Isn't your dollar worth more these days? ;)

Unfortunately no it tanked again last August. To the op $5750 for an 08 is still high in my part of Canada. Most guys selling 08's right now are sitting on two bikes as they likely already got their 09, I'd expect to pay around $5k for a mint 08 in my market.
