Bolt Problem

The bolt for my kickstart keeps falling out, i tighten it before i go everytime, and within 5 minutes of riding, i check it, and it is coming lose. I dont even keep the kickstart on anymore, i take it off and carry it with me. Is there anything i can do to stop the bolt from wabbling out? :ride:

How tight are you tightening it? It should be somewhere between 20 and 30 ftlbs, check your manual for th actual number.

Make sure you clean the inside threads out before you put the high strength loctite on it.

its a phillips screw and i tighten it till it wont go no more

k well its not a screw.. its a bolt, but it just has a phillips head on it.

I believe that the correct term is actually machine screw , bolts get fitted with nuts;). I have never seen one with the phillips head, do you think that it's the stock piece? An allen or hex screw would be easier to tighten.

Ok well, machine screw. And its the peice that came with the machine. It is about and inch long, it has medium fine threads. The head looks like a chinese sun hat with a phillips X in the middle of it. Ill just get some locTite and i should be good. :cool:

That's strange, I just noticed that your ride is a KX85 (I didn't bother to look before), and all of my KX's came with allen bolts. It wouldn't hurt to run by a hardware store before you lock it down, and get a bolt that you can stick in the hole in the event that it still makes it's way out.
Yes, I do call them all bolts, even though I know it's technically wrong. It's just one of those things I do to prevent confusion.

Now that I looked at some other pictures, im starting to think the machine screw was an allan key, i dont remember what it was because it fell out when i was at my uncles gravil pit, and i didnt notice it was missing until my cousin pointed it out to me. So what I did was I took one of those screws from that little white protective plastic wall on my rear disk break, and i tried it, and it fit, so i kept it in there. So thats why i thought it was a phillips, but im quite sure now that it was an allan key.

The stockers usually have a unique shape to them (my son has lost a couple). Rounded head that is large enough to hold the lever with a larger OD for a few mm inside the lever before it reaches the threads. It's about 20-25mm long, if I remember correctly. I have used a hardware bolt with a washer in the past. Like I said before, the phillips head is harder to properly tighten than allen or hex.
