How do I go about taking out a dent in my metal gas tank? The dent is only about 3 inches wide by maybe four inches long.

Depends on where it is. If it is accessible from the gas cap, you can make a bent 1/4" or 3/8" rod with a steel ball on the end and work it from the inside out. If it is not accessible from the cap, you can make yourself a little slide hammer and tack weld to the outside of the dent and pull it out. BE SURE TO DE-GAS THE TANK BEFORE WELDING ON IT.

This part is VERY important!!!!

I wouldn't try that on a gas tank. When ice expands, it will expand the entire tank, not just the dent. It doesn't work the same as with a pipe.

the only dents I've ever seen in metal gas tanks were a pair of them just forward of the seat toward the gas cap . . .

it hurts real bad to make them . . .
