The lap times from the Des Nations are online here - http://motogp.tiscali.com/en/mx/results.htm. They seem to be updated fairly frequently, Group 1 qualifying times have just gone up! Everts finished 0.8sec ahead of Carmichael...

It looks like it's going to be a real battle over there for the US. Belgium goes 1-1-1 in qualifying and I just found the following posted on Mototalk by D.C. from RacerX

Just found out from The Man, Roger DeCoster, that Tim Ferry twisted his thumb badly in the first practice session and is very, very sore. He apparently has stretched or even torn the ligaments. He is going to try to ride, but Roger was not optimistic about how good he could do.

Damn impressive showings from Coppins and Ramon. Coppins has really had the patience to steadily improve his speed (he rode some GPs late in the season) after he got hurt and I thought Ramon would be a career 125-rider like Mike Brown.

My money would be on Belgium with the experienced Everts and Ramon and the wild card of Joel the Fearless. Carmichael's speed alone will not carry the US team, especially if Ferry is hurt. Hughes, I'm afraid, is just not fast enough on a big bike.

I tend to agree. I think that RC will have a little something for all those fella's come race time and I don't think he will lose any sleep over being second fastest in timed qualifying. But if Ferry can't ride to potential I think that the US is in trouble.

Don't forget the lap times were done with the whoops removed from the track. Hopefully they add them back so the racing will be better and the fitness of the riders will come through.

Well, my dad took first spot in qualifying in a Finnish GP (of motocross) in the 60s. Although he's still plenty fast at 59, I doubt he would repeat.

I'll be back tomorrow (after watching the race live on tv) to read all the whine about the track being tailor-made to the Belgians and how K-Dub and Bubba would've made all the difference.

:| Let's see Bubba's main sponsor says he can't go so you bag on him. KDub doesn't have a ride nailed down for next year so if he get's injured he's unemployed with no paycheque, and he hasn't ridden SX in 2 seasons and needs the testing time. I bet they are both losing sleep over losing you as a fan

It's not in my nature to bag on riders but I hate when our best guys are too bussy to race the MXdN's. Bubba was on the cover of Racer X 6 months ago whipping his 250. Bubba has had a 250, he knows how to ride it and if he WANTED to race the MXdN's he could have. Kdub has more BS excuses than anyone, the bottem line is if were a big deal to Kevin he would be there. It's Bubbas and Kevins way of saying F you fans. Hey,go out and get youself a clue there Chili. Anssi thats pretty cool about your dad he must have been fast. I bet that it is Ryno that pulls through for us and gets us the win. USA USA USA!!!! We are going to kick euro ass!!!!!!

If someone needs a clue it would be someone who thinks that Bubba wasn't itching to go over there and show everyone RC included who is the fastest rider in the world. Bottom line is Kawasaki and his handlers said no so Bubba waits for his time.

This is my final comment on the matter. There is not point in me getting into an idiotic flame fest over this topic with you since your eloquence with words clearly demonstrates your superior ability for idiotic flames.

I agree. No use in arguing who is patriotic and who is not.

If you want to argue about it you can look at Team Australia and a few other countries whose riders opted not to go b/c they wanted more free time/practice time/etc.

Windham and his Wife also just had a baby, their first. Anyone with kids can tell you what that is like. I totally agree with his decision to sit this one out. It sucks our best team isn't their. However, our second, third, and fourth best teams are good enough so it doesn't matter.

I applaud Kdub for having his priorities in the right place. Fair weather fans can kiss off, if they aren't bagging for this it would be something else. Good for him for making the decision based on what is best for him and his.

actually this IS USA's best team, u guys are forgetting ferry is faster than kdub in the sand. here's southwicks best lap times from both moto's

1 4 01:55.672 Moto 1 RICKY CARMICHAEL HAVANA, FL HON 250
2 15 01:57.186 Moto 1 TIMMY M FERRY LARGO, FL YAM 450
3 14 01:58.767 Moto 1 KEVIN W WINDHAM CENTREVILLE, MS HON 450
4 16 01:59.085 Moto 1 JOHN DOWD LUDLOW, MA KTM 250

ZOLDER IS A SAND TRACK.

as for bubba i dont know if he'd beat ferry in the sand at this stage, he might but its a bit of a risk sending an unproven rider on 250's therefore if USA dont win there's no excuses about this being a B team. this is the USA A team
the best of the best the cream of the crop etc.

Also points are taken from the two best finishing riders making hughes pretty much a backup rider.

WHY IN THE HELL DON'T WE HAVE AN ALTERNATE IN CASE SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS!!??

I have no faith in Hughes (I hope he makes me eat my words). I believe Ferry will ride his butt off, but I don't think he has the heart to gut it out. Uninjured, yeah, I believe he deserves to be there, injured.....well, I don't know. As far as RC not having the fastest lap times.....we've seen that nearly every race this season! RC NEVER rides his fastest lap during practice! He's the man and he WILL win! USA! USA! USA!

Semi-Final results are posted now.   Check the link in the first post on page 1 of this thread.

The Semis determine which 12 teams make it into the 'A' final and which teams are relegated to the 'B' event .  USA qualifies easily for the 'A' main, going 1, 2, 6 (RC, Hughes, Ferry) in Semi #1.    Belgium goes 3,4,15.

BTW, NZ's Coppins won the 2nd Semi, but he did one less lap than RC and had an average speed that was 2.3 km/hour (approx. 5%) slower than RC.

Australia fails to make the cut for the 'A' final. :ugg:

Can't wait for the main event!

Everts finished 4th, behind Ramon? Oh the shame, the shame. RC beat Hughes by 13 seconds and supposed best in the World Everts by 25 seconds. So much for qualifying.

Truthfully, is anyone really suprised by that? Everts has never had the speed when he has raced against our best.

Congrats to Belgium. Based on the Live Timing it appears RC got a bad start took a few laps to get by Everts and then stretched the lead to 10+ and then coasted. Looked like Ferry and Hughes got horrid starts, Hughes crashed out on lap 2 and Ferry charged as high as 8th before he must have put it down and dropped to 14th and ended up 9th I believe. Belgium was running 2,3 and 4 when RC got by Everts and it stayed that way for many laps until Ramon crashed out on lap 12.

Quick recap of the A-final (saw it on tv, the coverage (it was live with no commercial breaks but I mean camera angles, position charts etc.) was _way_ worse than for the regular GP rounds).

Smets and Everts storm to the lead from the start, RC maybe around 10th or so. Everts takes the lead and runs away a bit from Smets. RC works on the other riders, gets by Coppins in the whoops for 3rd and Smets for 2nd somewhere with apparently NO BLOODY CAMERAS around. He catches Everts and is _WAY_ faster in the whoops, every single time.

In fact, RC was the only rider show to really blitz the whoops that looked pretty tame (low), but apparently were pretty gnarly. Hughes got taken out in the whoops by someone who caught him at the end of the whoops and slid under him. Ferry worked his way up steadily, but was probably not about to pass anyone for position anymore when he did a classic flying W when entering a slightly whooped out straightaway from a chicane and proceeded to go over the bars.

They also showed a lot of Jussi-Pekka Vehviläinen, a Finnish rider who just came out of two long injured periods (he raced no GPs this year). I'm pretty glad that he certainly still has the speed to run with the big dogs (admittedly, he has always been a bit of a sand specialist) and got 5th. Add to that a good finish by Pyrhönen, who, contrary to his past races, got a great start, and Finland is once again on the podium!
