[img2=left]http://dirtrider.net/news/dw_news.jpg[/img2]DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (March 5, 2007) – Dirt Wurx USA’s president Rich Winkler announced today that Dirt Wurx will again be the official track builder for this season’s Daytona round of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series.

Dirt Wurx, the exclusive designer and contract builder of the 15 other supercross events produced and promoted by Live Nation, was again the choice of the AMA’s race manager, Steve Whitelock, to design and construct the unique supercross track on start/finish line infield portion of Daytona International Speedway this Friday (March 9).

“We brought in Dirt Wurx again this year to not only maintain consistency of the track construction for the series, but also because Rich had some thoughts as to how the track should be designed based on the fact he’s still an active racer,” said Whitelock. “Rich brought some fresh ideas on how to return the Daytona Supercross By Honda track back to its heyday – a rugged, outdoor-style track that reflects not only the technical nature of supercross, but one that will also be a lesson in endurance for the racers – similar to that found in the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship.”

Winkler, who used to race AMA MX Nationals as a pro back in the day, was pumped to again lead his crew of dozers onto hallowed grounds of Daytona International Speedway – the birthplace of supercross in the eastern United States.

“Last year we were working on the track one night before the race when I stopped my dozer and looked out over the finish line and thought to myself ‘You don’t even have to be a fan of NASCAR to sense the incredible racing heritage in this place,’” said Winkler. “It truly is a treat for us to work here with the staff of Daytona International Speedway. Supercross on the east coast got its start here at Daytona and Dirt Wurx will pay meticulous attention to detail in order to preserve the same heritage that supercross, like NASCAR, enjoys at this remarkable facility.”

New for this year’s Daytona Supercross By Honda, according to Winkler, will be a completely re-designed straight-away, a major departure from the quarter mile drag strip of recent years. “We broke the 1,700-foot straight up with two chicanes, transforming it into three short straight-aways,” he said. “In addition to that we almost doubled the amount of track that’s roughed-up more so than a traditional stadium supercross track.

“Last year we might have groomed the track a bit too much. This year it’s back to the old school Daytona Supercross experience.”
