BigLou, you KILL me!:) Aside from getting there, my favorite part was the headlight class MX race. I was planning on taking it easy, but the gate dropped and I found myself hurtling toward turn one with my heart in my mouth. There were maybe 15-16 guys in my class, and I found myself in 7th or 8th by turn two. I managed to calm down and pace myself by pinning the throttle and fanning the clutch continuously. For a lap and a half, I postponed the inevitable by staying upright and somewhat in control. Finally, though, I dropped my XR4 in one of the turns by the finish line and got passed by two guys. The bike stayed lit (incredible!) and I got back by one of them pretty easily. The next two laps were spent in a heated, spastic battle with a guy on a KDX. (MikeB, I think?) I was running on pure adrenaline at this point. I remember getting past the KDX-mounted spode on the last lap and almost going over the bars whilst trying to execute a tail-whip over one of the jumps. I also remember KDX guy shouting some sort of epithet as I wheelied by. Of course, it could well have been an expletive. ;) I think he was tired of smelling my clutch. I may have placed as high as 9th, but at the finish, I was cackling like an mental defective. That was the most fun I had experienced in a loooong time. I can't wait for this year's event!
