I'm considering getting back into riding again after a 5 year lay-off, I am now 41 and way out of shape, but know riding again will take care of that. When I used to race I was slow because of endurance but was able to run mid-pack in a Vet B race for a few laps, after that I faded pretty quick. I have rode both 125 and 250, I was fastest on a YZ 125, mostly because of cornering speed. I was also a so called Byronite, and will be probably be again if I start riding again, along with the ocassional LGR and Aztalan race. So what are the 30B & 40B Vet riders in district 16 and 17 running these days? Are the 250 four strokes as flickable as the 125 two-strokes? Are any vet riders riding the 250 four strokes or 125 two-strokes? I race for fun and am not concered with the holeshot, but would still like to run in the upper 50%, I realize most of this is rider ability and not the bike, but I would still like to hear what other Vet riders are racing on and thoughts about the 250 fourstrokes and 125 twostrokes running in these classes.

I have three riding friends and all are on 4-strokes. CRF450, KTM SX520, and a KTM SX450. I ride a 02 RM 25o, but I don't race the 30+ class, still under.

I've done a lot of D-17 race reports... and the four-stroke revolution has struck the vet classes over the past 2-3 years. I would say 70% of the +30/+40 riders are on big bore 4-strokes (450cc/426cc/400cc/520cc/525cc), 16% are on 250cc 2-strokes, 7% are on big bore 2-strokes (500cc/380cc/310cc), 6% are on 250cc 4-strokes, and 1% are on 125cc 2-strokes.

Also, D-17 doesn't have a +40B class, just the regular +40 and it's FAST lead by seasoned racers such as Nafzger, Mauer, Wardy, Brill, Walker, Hawthorne, Rhoton, Nordloft, Hazarda, and crew. And I think +30B is going away come 2004 if I remember right, or maybe it's just +25B that is going away?

Yes district 17 has a 40B now, I would never consider riding 40 plus if they had not added a 40B class, being lapped by Nafzger, Stacy or Brill isn't my idea of a good time. The adittion of the 40B class is part of the reason im considering racing again, it was a good move on the part of district 17, thanks to those involved. I highly doubt they will ever drop the 30B class, I think its the 35 class they are considering dropping.

Man it seems everyones on the fourstrokes, I kinda figured most will be on the big bores. There wern't many 125cc vet racers in district 17, but there were a few more in 16, last time I raced. Im leaning towards a MX 250 fourstroke any vet racers have first hand knowledge of racing one of these in D17 or D16 or anywhere else for that matter?

I'm on a 125 and in the older class you mentioned, just not from that district. Here is the poll I did on DRN asking similar topic.
