Has anyone used DOT 5 brake fluid in their KDX? A friend said it's silicone content gives it great anti-fade properties and as a bonus it won't eat away paint on other parts when bleeding brakes. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't think that DOT 5 Fluid can be used in any other system because it is incompatible with the seals on DOT3/4 systems and will make them swell up. If I am not mistaken, DOT 5 was developed as a lower viscocity fluid to help the actuater response in anti-lock brake systems.

Thanks, I just checked out the link in casper250's response which was very informative. I think I'm going to stick to DOT 4

I bougth a bottle of DOT 5 before I read that link about six months ago. I'm still looking for DOT 5.1. I think that would be a good deal.

Sounds like you already got it sorted out...but for sure, don't ever mix DOT 4&5!!

Well, unless your intent is to absolutely ruin the whole hydraulic system you put it in!

Do NOT put DOT5 in your brakes. It is silicon based, and totally incompatible with the seals. It will swell the seals to the point that you can't even get the piston out of the caliper or master cylinder. DOT5 fluid was developed as a lower-viscosity fluid for anti-lock brakes, to allow faster response times from the solenoids.
