Electrofusion plating

While looking up wiseco pistons in the dennis kirk mag, i saw that most bikes don't have the electrofusion plating except kawa's.

What is this plating and what does it do?
Thanks for any replies, i'm a curious person.

Basically it's much harder than an iron sleeve. Lasts a long time.

In a bike that is run hard, it's nice being able to replace a piston/ring set often without messing with boring/honing cylindrical squareness and oversized pistons.
