Engine Rebuild for XR200 - What's required?

Hello All,

I just picked up a 2000 XR200 for $200... It's smoking and the plasitcs need to be cleaned up/changed. Plastics were painted black but thank goodness they left the frame alone.

What's required for engine rebuild? And what are some good prices on parts such as piston kit? Where to buy?

I know I will need:

Valve Seals
Piston Kit (rings, pin, clips)
Timing Chain and possibly guides? Tensioner?
Top and bottom gasket kit? maybe just the top end?
Shim's for valves???
A CLYMERS MANUAL

If it were mine, I would take it apart and inspect everything first. Measure everything and compare it to the specs in your manual. You may only need new rings and gaskets.

The XR engine uses adjustable rocker arms, it doesn't use shims.

The link on the left of the page for Service Honda is a good source for OEM parts at a good discount.
