That's heat tint from the welding. If you take your pipe to clean, shiny metal with a Scotchbrite pad and clean all oil residues off, you can take an acetylene torch and follow the weld seams. You will see the discoloration start and radiate outwards from the point you are heating. I don't know why you would want to do this, but this is how you would get it back. It won't last long.

I think it just looks cool :cool: , better than plain ol' metal anyway. I thought It was caused by oil on the pipe, and would sort of protect it from rust, but I guess that's not the case.
