im 14, 135lbs and 5'7". i have never ridden a dirt bike before. i am now in the market for a new dirt bike under 3000 dollars. i jump my bike and my quad, so jumping on this dirt bike will be mandatory. my father and i are looking at getting a 2003 yamaha ttr-125e and a 2003 honda cr85. is the cr85 a good jumping bike for a person of my stature? please share your thoughts.
The CR85 is a great jumping bike. However, I had one of those and it jumps great, but I am selling it because I don't like the power. What I found is a great bike for everything is the CRF150. With the right mods from BBR this bike rips! For 150 extra dollars you can put heavy duty fork and shock springs which makes the bike awesome for jumping. I like the CRF150 with the fork and shock springs much more than my CR. Just something to think about. Plus the CRF150 is a much better bike to learn how to ride on.
Just a little advice, but at that height, you are going to grow out of an 85cc bike pretty quickly. I would probably look into getting a KX 100, RM 100, or if you plan on racing and want to keep it in the 85cc class, you can also look at a CR 85 Expert, and Suzukis RM 85L.
Jumping bike???
A bike that jumps???
Best one i ever had was a Z50.
Yea. Took the piston and internals out of the engine and filled the cases with mexican jumping beans!!!!

o.k. Seriously now.
Youve never ridden a dirt bike before?
Do yourself, your dad and your friends a favor and learn how to RIDE it before you go playing Evil Bowevel with it.
Learn to turn, brake, and control the thing before turning yourself into a statistic.
Take an offroad bike safety course, or better yet find a MX school/training facility.
Racing happens on the ground too. ;)
