final round, october 6.
in the second practice, i deviated from my usual routine. i always let everyone go, then ride by myself. last night, i decided to run with them - big mistake. i came upon a couple of slightly slower riders so i took a far inside line in a turn to set up a way to get around them. as we hit a small double following the turn, the rider in the middle moved over into my line. he singled the jump. i was already committed. i hit him square in the back with my front tire. we both ate it. i landed off the track, slowly got up, looked over at him and hollered, "you have to double it, man!" he didn't say anything. i sat down for awhile to compose myself. after i realized that i would survive, i got on my bike and rode the half lap back to the pits with my visor hanging down. they hauled the other guy off on the mule with a knee injury. i told everyone who checked on me that i was okay from the knees down but everything else hurt.
my bike seemed to be okay with the exception of slightly bent bars and a couple dozen new scratches. i lined up on the gate for the first moto. i got a third place start but on the second lap, my bike started sputtering. it was scary so i rolled all the jumps. it finally quit running just before the finish line. i waited for the checkered flag, then pushed it across the line and back to the pits.
i changed the plug but just got intermittent spark. i started checking everything out and finally found a broken wire at the cdi. it was right where the wire goes into the plug so i couldn't tape it or anything. i'll have to replace the whole cable. i loaded up and went home early.
luckily, i had to enough points already to win the championship. today, both wrists and hips are sore, my right hand is swollen, and my right elbow hurts so bad that i can barely raise my arm. i'm just too old for these kind of crashes.
