fork and shock oil changes

I want to change the fork oil in my 02 KX250.
Is it possible to remove the tubes and drain the old oil then just replace the oil with the same amount removed like in the old days? Or is there some trick i should know. The kawi owners manual is a bit vague. any help would be appreciated.
