Fork Bushings

I am going to replace my fork bushings this weekend. Is there any way to tell if my old ones are worn out? I hate changing stuff "because I should" The bike is a 1997 YZ 250.

I have the new bushings and seals. I am mostly looking for an excuae to use my seal driver. I hated buying this for 50.00, but my local shop wanted 100.00 plus parts and oil to change the seals!

It is cold enough in our area that riding is almost out of the question. Is there anything else I should do inside the fork? I don't mind if this job takes several days.

Just give it a good and complete wash down you'll be fine! Check for bent midvalve washers.. Bad ones will not be laying flat..

bushings have a teflon gray coating on them. If the coating goes you will see the coppercolor underneath them. Are they scorced or have other irregularities??

Guys, thanks. The old bushings had what I would call a "ridge" on them. There appeared to be some wear, but nothing too serious. Some of the grey was missing as well.
