I'm replacing the oil seal and changing the fork oil level height on my 2001 YZ250. I have removed the cap bolt, dust seal, and retaining ring yet the inner tube doesn't come off. Do I need to remove the lock nut at the top of the damping rod to separate the tubes? The manual doesn't mention this. Will I need any additional tools to remove this nut? Thanks.

OK so you have the spring and spring guide etc out? One of the bushes is driven into the outer slider so you need to pull the two sliders of the fork apart quickly over and over again. It will sound like you're wrecking something as the bushes hit each other but it is the way it has to be done. It will help to heat the bottom of the outer slider(Where the bush resides) by either pouring boiling water over it or heating "lightly" with a blow torch.
