Hey Folks,
I am about to replace the front sprocket on my sons KX65 for the third time in about 5 months.
The first was from the original sprocket to a Sprocket Specialists. I got about 2 months out of it. The second was a TAG Metals sprocket and I got less than two months from it.
Is this normal?
It has a Sunline rear sprocket which is fine. The chain was new on the Sprocket Specialists sprocket and it is a Moose Racing gold chain.
I am just a little curious about the speed in which these things seem to wear out?
BTW - He does race it.

Your Thoughts?

Cheers
Bernie

I got a year and a half on a Sunstar 12t, it still had a little life, but it was showing it's age. The replacement was due to severe chain (stock part) damage from an external source. Make sure that you aren't running it too tight, and keep it lubed.

Too tight a chain, or a chain that is worn out (elongated past spec. length) is what causes the sprockets to go south.

Don't feel bad though...from my experience I estimate approx. 80% of veteran riders will have their chains way too tight. It is of epidemic proportions, and I kid you not.
The too tight chain is so comman that conventional wisdom starts looking for the reaasons for sprocket wear, that in reality, have nothing to do with the real problem.
More often than not, folks will blame the quality of the equipment...but in most every instance this is simply not the cause of the sprocket wear.

Tension the chain properly...

If you are certain your chain tension procedure is correct....
