Has anyone tried the new Gaerne SG10 boots?
Has a pivoting ankle, a la SIDI Flex Force

As much as I love my SIDIs, I'm fed up of them shredding my bike up and the fit with knee braces is horrible.

Go the Gaernes. I wear SG1s and cant fault them, SG10s in my opinion are a better boot than the overrated tech 8. Great fit, super quick break in, and they look horn :) Plus the soles wont chop out after 2 rides! I actually know of people putting gaerne soles on their astars because they last so much longer!

I have about 10 rides on my sg10's
love em

I was wearing tech 7's for 6 years

they are comfortable
they buckles work great

Anybody else got these? I've been wearing tech 8's for the last 3 years and ready for new boots, toss up between the Gaernes, Fox Formas or back to tech 8's?

Thanks for the advice guys.

While the SIDIs are excellent boots, there are too many short comings with them.
1)Too short-top to bottom- hangs on bike.
2) Excessive plastic on inner calf-shreds air boxes and whatever is in the way.
3)Straps loose their adjustment just by removing boot.
4) With knee braces on, can't fasten inner velcro gaitor strap.

SIDI is too slow to update the boots. All the complaints I've mentioned have been the same since the came out 5 years ago.

My son LazyBoy has a set that he's got a few races and several practice days on so far. We spent considerable time trying on every boot we could find with the exception of the Sidi (no dealer here) and each boot was met with a "I dunno, feels ok" kind of response. As soon as he stood up in the Gaerne's he stated "these are the one's". Since they were one of the two choices on my list for protective reasons we ended up with them. He hasn't complained about a thing so far with them.

Did he try the Oxtar pro's? That is what I am planning on.
Either the Oxtars Pro or the SG 10.
I took a good close look at a pair of Oxtar Comp's similar to Tech 6s and was impressed. From what I could see they seemed to be a superior boot.

I had them on back ordered so hopefully I'll have my SG10's soon got them threw the rider support program. But I have tried them on and they feel like they are gonna be awesome I have tech 8's now and like the boots can't stand the soles but the new tech 8's have newer soles like the gaerne's now.

He tried on the Oxtar Pro's and felt they were the most unsuitable of the group for his foot.

I suppose it owuld have alot to do with personal preferance I myself have very flat feet so would prefer something different probably than a person with a high arch. Did the Oxtars just not fit right? I am not buying this week or anything but this fall or winter when I get my fresh gear I will be getting a pair of quality boots. However since I am in Nova Scotia Canada the dealers around here dont keep much inventory so you kinda gotta know what you need before you order....

Dex my son has flat feet to the point that he needs orthotics for support. Each boot is a personal feel or preference. He felt that the Oxtars didn't match up to any of the boots he tried on that day for fit and feel. Quality wise they seem like a decent boot. To give you an idea how it can be personal feel most rave about the Tech 8 and the bootie, my son hated the feel of the bootie and wanted the Tech 6's until we tried on the Gaerne's.

Sounds good. So I guess I will be looking to get either a pair of Astar Tech 6s or the Garene SG 10. :cool:


How do you know if you need orthotics arch support? What does it do?

We are kind of hijacking the thread here but he was having knee pain and saw an orthopedic surgeon who prescribed the orthotics to correct his gait.

i had the same thing with my knees when i used to run a lot, if he's not in any pain he doesnt necessarily need them but the arch can gradually be built up with orthotics.

How high are the water proof gaiters on the SG10? Do they come all the way up like SIDIs or are they lower, like the Alpinestars?

The gaiter comes up 2/3 of the way. Which, when set next to the SIDIs is about 2" lower.


I rode with my new SG10s today.
Very nice boot, took about 10 miles to break in.
All I had to do was raise the shift lever up a notch.
The buckles are super easy to use, on the SIDIs they had to be perfectly straight before they would latch.
Buckles are adjustable-top one 2.5" adjustment.
Top of boot seals even with knee braces on.
Pivots are slightly back from the ankle joint.This allows for a narrower boot at the ankle-SIDIs would push your feet out.
Rode all day and boots did not hang on the bike, also does not shred the air box and frame like the SIDIs.

I curious about the "bulk" of the SG10s. I mean I loved my Tech 8s (with exception of the worst sole on the market), but found them very big and bulky, particularly now that I'm riding woods almost exclusively. I really like my Sidis for this reason...very supportive, yet slim, light weight and good feel on controls (non-SRS).

I've always liked Gaernes but am concerned about the SG10s being bulky like the Tech 8s. What do you find gasgasman, after having both the Sidi and Gaernes?

I've got a few rides on mine now, they're not nearly as bulky as Tech 8's. I've had a problem a few times of them catching on the sides of the bike, smashed my toe into the front inside when I clipped a rock once. They broke in almost immediately and I 've gotten used to them but next time I'll try something else, they don't feel all that protective?

The SIDIs are thinner at the top of the foot area.But wider at the ankles.
With the Gaernes, all I had to do was raise the shifter up.
The Gaernes do not snag on the bike at all.
My Asterisks now fit in the boot with room to spare.
The SIDIs has less flex in the sole.

For me the SIDIs has too many idiosynchracies to deal with.

Are these good for those of us that have big calves (19") and the big Thor force knee gaurd(looks like a brace).

My Oxtars I have now - the top buckle will not do up at all with my knee gaurds on.

Got my SG-10's yesterday, can't comment about riding with them, but will say I'm very impressed with them out of the box, sweet boot, quality stuff!

About large calves... they have the most room I've seen (Sidi's, Tech 8's and 6's) and do have additional adjustment in the top two buckles allowing you to add size. My calves are 17", lot's of room left with the knee braces.
