The SIDIs has less flex in the sole.

Are you comparing the SRS sole or the standard sole?

Thanks for the info gasgasman! I might give them a try.

As another FYI about the Gaerne's they seem to understand Customer Service as well. We had a problem with one of the buckles on LazyBoy's that had started to pull through the boot. One phone call to Bob's Cycle supply, a couple of quick digital pics and a 10 minute wait before I get a return call tellling me the rep says no problem bring em down for a new pair. This was a few weeks ago after we had put pretty much a full race season on em.

I have about 10 rides on my SG10's, including a 55 mile poker run. I really like them. One thing I found though is you have to keep an eye on the pivot screw. Mine kept backing off and I finally lost it. Gaerne replaced it free of charge and suggested I lock tite them, The only rub I have with them is that I wish they were more supportive for frontwards motion i.e toes moving towards the shin. I've found that hard landings and cases tend to hurt on the top of my foot due to my toes trying to touch my shin.

That may be the deal breaker for me. My ankles are so wasted that I need particular attention to support in that direction. I think its referred to as hyperflexion.

I tried on every boot on the market and the minute I put on the SG-10...I knew that was it.They feel great break in was instantanious. I swear by these boots. I had a high speed get off the bike landed on my ankle. Badly bruised, but no break. I am convinced without a doubt if I would have had any other boot on I wouldn't have walked away from that crash. If they fit your foot right then don't hesitate to buy them....you will be very pleased.

Did you try on a pair of astar 10s? Much lighter and more comfortable than the 8s. Haven't tried Gaernes yet - haven't located a dealer in Sacramento, CA (yet). Thanks for the Gaerne review though, and the insight on Sidis. I will be looking at both before buying.

No comparison between the boots. If you could come up with the extra dough you'd be far better off with the SG-10's.

plus they were on sale for like 230

If that's what you paid for the SG-1's you could have got the SG-10's for $60 more online at bobs cycle supply. It is $60 well invested. If you can find a local shop with the SG-10's take your SG-1's down and compare em side by side by bending them sideways, front to back etc.

not trying to hijack the tread but i just got the new thor quadrants. im on a budget and the price was right. havent ridden in them yet but to me they fit killer and im happy with them. they also close all the way with the thor force knee guards on too. my on complaint so far would be the very top buckle doesnt like to stay latched under alot of presure.

I was all set to buy me some SG10s but when I looked at 'em over at Bobby J's, they seem really heavy. And what is all that wrap around plastic stuff for? So I didn't get any new boots.

Wes, according to Transworlds Boot Buyers guide the SG-10's are pretty heavy. 9lbs 6 oz. which is 14 oz more than the Tech 8's and 6 oz's more than the Tech 10's. Overall the weight of the boot within reason would be of little concern to me as I don't spend the day walking in them. The wrap around stuff I can only imagine is part of the support that the boots offer. For us it came down to looking for the most support for LazyBoy after his tib/fib break which left us 3 choices, Oxtar, Gaerne and Sidi. Of those he didn't get a chance to try on the Sidi's but after trying all the A'stars and the Oxtar as soon as he put on the Gaerne he knew he had found his new boots.

Hmmm, I guess I need to change my riding style or my bike. :rotfl:

I found a like-new pair of SG-10s on a certain popular auction site that must, alas, remain nameless here, for $210 shipped. I look forward to trying them. I wanted the most protective and comfortable boot out there. I have two pairs of Tech 8s, and I love them, but just wanted to try something different. Also, I like the pivoting ankle support on the Gaernes.

I too ordered a pair of the new Thor Quadrants, and after trying them on realized they were too small. They were not all that comfortable either. I tried on a pair of SG-'1s and they felt much better. However when i tried on the SG-10's, I knew those were the ones. I have sent my Thors back and have my SG-10's on order. The Thors were size 9 and too tight, the SG-10's are size 9 and feel almost as comfortable as my tennis shoes. I am really looking forward to riding in them!!!
