my bike doesn't seem to go as far as I think it should on a tankfull(even though it's 3.5 gal.)
it has a bit of oil (actually a lot) dripping from the silencer onto the swingarm and tire. This shows improper jetting---Correct?

The question is "Will this bad jetting affect my range on a tank"?

NOTE: I've only had the bike for one desert trip, but it seems to be running really well

i've never done jetting. How much would it be for a shop to do it? Ballpark estimate?

Sounds like you're jetted rich. You should be able to lean it out and maybe help get some more distance out of each tankful. I've heard local shops quote anywhere from $40-80 plus jets to do a bike.

Your shop might be able to get you in the ballpark, but that's about it.

Learn to jet for yourself and you will be happier in the long run! :)

Have someone watch the carb overflow tubes as you lean the bike from side to side. If your float level is too high, you will constantly overflow fuel while in motion.
