My girlfriends bike is a 98 cr80. I used standard gear oil for the gears and clutch.

The clutch burned up this weekend. I dont know how old it was because we bought the bikes used so it could have already been mostly gone when we got it. My only question is standard gear oil OK or do I need to buy gear oil made for a bike?

Run Honda's HP 80-85w two-stroke transmission oil. Good stuff and it is what Honda reccomends in that bike. About $4.28 per bottle from motosport.com or your local Honda dealer.

First of all let me say that to this date I have never had clutch probs or gear probs on any bike I've owned and I've had em all except a KTM, I've always used Castroil 20 W 50 in my gear box and will keep on using it because it works
I change it after 3 to 4 good hard rides.

P.S: I also do not use the clutch to shift up or down and still no probs ((KNOCK on WOOD))
