GIS / GPS mapping of trails

I want to start a discussion on what is needed.

1. I need the crumb trail that is the active track.
2. I would prefer that you turn your unit on and off at each start and ending point of a trail segment. That will allow me to have each active track as a unique segment.
3. Garmin ... Guys, I know there are other products out there but the state of MN has written a great little front end for Garmin software that makes the process quite easy to get info into GIS.
