The fire came up and over the back side of Mt. St. Helen and into the park early this morning. A news clip showed some footage of the American flag at the top of the hill with huge flames right behind it. :whiner:

Very sad situation out here in So. Cal.

19TH ANNUAL WHITE BROS. WORLD VET MX CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL RUN AS SCHEDULED THIS WEEKEND AT GLEN HELEN RACEWAY

According to promoter Lori Yarnell, Glen Helen Raceway will still host the White Bros. World Ven MX Championships this weekend, despite being burned by the raging fires in Southern California.

"It burned all around the facility - Mount St. Helens is burnt, Yamaha mountain - but all of the structures are fine," said Yarnell. "The race track actually saved the facility - it was a fire break. Our biggest damage was in the water lines, and we don't have any electricity, but we're working on generators to get it all back up. And we are racing the World Vet Championships this weekend.

"I feel sorry for the people of the region who have lost their homes and their businesses," she continued, "but there's nothing more to burn here at the track, so we figure we might as well go racing."

HERE IS ANOTHER TRACK THAT SURVIVED THE FLAMES

According to CMMC President Gracie Buscemi, Barona Oaks Motocross Raceway in Ramona, California, has survived Firestorm 2003.

Fire threatened the 30-year-old racetrack on Sunday, October 26, devastating everything around the track. However, the famous racetrack served as a firebreak, saving the track's main structures and even the pit area oak trees for which the track is named after. The track did, however, lose a water truck and the permanent bathrooms to the fire that continues to rage in Southern California.

For more information, visit CMMC's website at: www.baronaoaks.com or call the 24/7 hotline at 760/752-8252.

Maybe they should turn all that land out there over to the dirtriders and let them cut some fire breaks :)
