The weatherman was wrong, it freaking started raining in the middle of the night HARD, it did not let up by 10 am and we started the enduro in the lite rain. I figured that as dry as it has been the ground would soak it up. Wrong. It was one slippery 'effer! Mike and I were on Cody Masten's row 23. I was just trail riding so at the start I just let them go. A few turns through a corn field and we are in the woods, I'm tentative at first getting my bearings on the conditions and verifying that every freaking log will be slick and off camber. Starting to get a feel for it and WHAM I go down and my left hand grip is buried in the mud. I get my bike up and both hands are covered in greasy mud. I try to wipe it off but it won't come off much. Offf I go hanging on to a greased watermelon that don't want to steer. Now here I am as far out of shape as nearly possible, riding a slick enduro that requires your best upper body conditioning and trying to hold on extra tight....not long and the arm pump set in and then I was in survival mode already. I rode the first section like that and checked into the second section down a minute. Man this was one long section, I fell down a few more times and got mad. I finally pulled off the trail took off the slippery gloves and rode bare handed after taking for ever to get the gloves stuffed inside my jacket pocket. That was better by far but i wore my self out already fighting the bike. I had nothing left for that section and by the time I got out and into the next section I started down 7 minutes. My day was not progressing well you might say. But i kept going, riding the entire first half to gas with zero rest breaks, unless you count picking my bike off the ground a break. Near the end of a section I see Ted still going like the energizer bunny and I give him a friendly wave. He was my inspiration for the day! Some where in the long section I managed to pop my sore shoulder on a tree and between that and riding pretty slow I decided if I could get to gas and leave on time I'd keep going but if not I'd hang it up but as I came to gas Mike was leaving so I just decided to call it a day, not push my self too far just coming back and play it safe. Lets just say I picked a real tough enduro to be my first one back. The trails were pretty sweet and given a bit less rain it would have been a lot easier but it was still fun even though I sucked really bad. It was good to be on the bike again, riding some nice trail and no sand whoops. Congrats to the guys that rode it all and did well. I know the Duesendanglers, Ghetto Booty boy, Magoo, Mike Maurer all got trophies.

I'll see some of you at the D14 banquet and for sure on the D 14 SS class tour next year. I'll be on the bike all winter getting my self back into riding shape. It's good to be back, even if it takes more to come back than I realized, I'm riding!

Just because it didn't include small farm animals Nick doesn't mean it's necessarily 'racey'.

Sounds like it was an ENDURO! Nice way to end the series...

The D14 enduro series included a few "real enduros". Two were enhanced by the weather - Marquette - heat and Goshen - rain. Not many series have a two day event. We were blessed in 2005, but we still need more events in 2006.

I was amazed at how fast other guys could ride with no traction. DW this includes you and trashrider. I went down hard in one of the field sections and was able to walk away, but I was very careful the rest of the day. FredT made the right decision...he had nothing to gain by riding the second section and honestly, the riding was not a lot of fun for me. The entire enduro experience includes spending time with friends before and after the event...the dinner, movie and bench racing after the event still made for an enjoyable weekend.
BTW...the movie was "the life and times of Bark Buster 67" aka as Duece Bigelow.

If it was "Life and Times of BB 67" there must have been a whole lot of LARGE women in it.

'Cause we all know that's the way he likes 'em....

It was a real mudfest.
I was riding on a minute with Blair & Brett Bersono, I barely saw them all day. I did pass them once, after the race in my pickup going home.
It was tough, at the beginning it felt like you were riding with slicks instead of knobbies.
I had problems with the bike not idling and keeping it running. There were lots of logs to go over!
Up until gas it wasn't to bad but after gas things got worse. I started to have clutch problems, it wouldn't disengage and the pull started to get harder. By the last section my hand was so swollen up that I could't hardly pull the clutch in, it made it very difficult to ride. I was really glad to see the end. I finished the race in 6th place.
It was a great series but I am really glad it is over with!
It was great to see everyone, as Mike said it it's just not about the racing its about the people!
Fred, glad to see you back on the bike and racing.

Now to wash 50lbs. of mud off of the "brick" & find out what the problems were.

Ghetto riding

I have found the secret to placing well at enduros. It is not healthy living or having morals or values. The secret is carb-loading in the form of alcoholic beverages. Miller Highlife (low life?) and whiskey sours seem to be the hot ticket. There is no better feeling than racing with a hangover. It took me until the gas stop to purge the toxins out of myself.
Alcohol gets a bad rap, too many safety nazis out there. My body is the result of cocaine and steroids. Chemicals are my friend. Grab life by the ass! :moon:

Goshen was a Piece O cake.....

Cody & I assessments:

Well…. 1ea. destroyed pipe 1ea. smashed pipe 1ea. bent bark buster 1ea. smashed head light 1ea. broken front brake cable 1ea. plastic shroud 1ea. bent rear brake lever 1ea. watch dog sensor wire 1ea. rear set of brakes 1ea. torn seat cover 4ea. wasted goggle lenses 1ea. MIA roll chart lens….

2ea. bruised sholders 3 bruised forearms 1ea. swollen knee and 1ea. left side bruised ass cheek….

What a big BANG to end the enduro season! Cody & I and Trash Rider had a blast riding on the same minute! Cigars, Beer, Jack & Coke, Mikes lemon aid & pumpkin cookies were the after party fav’s at the Ghetto Booty Racing camp….

Oh thank’s again FredT for finding my score card skipping across the pavement…You must have the eye of a hawk & the agility of an alley cat and the honesty of a Pope! I was wondering why I didn’t see my score card posted on the board.

Don, Besta wishes & speedy recovery on your sore hands….Wouldn’t want little winky to file a missing person’s report on ya! hehehe

On the way to New Paree I watched the mist turn to drizzle, then rain, trying to decide if I should go on an early or late number. At sign up that was settled when the latest number available was 32. So for the third year in a row I took the earliest number possible. It turned out to be a good choice. Although the trail was covered with leaves, the arrows were easy to see and follow. Since there weren’t many on the early numbers, I had perhaps 15 miles of almost solo trail riding. As more riders passed me the leaves disappeared and the ruts became prevalent. At a ditch I made a mistake in coordination, got stuck and had it not been for the help of a local resident, would have been there more than 4 minutes trying to get free. Other mishaps were going off a bridge, getting hung up crossing logs, going down a bank and stalling out in tight spots. Despite this, at the checks I received cheers and encouragement. This was enough to help me make the check before gas 59 minutes late. It has been several years since I haven’t houred out before gas at this enduro. So for a change I got to ride the trails east of Route 15. After a few more bobbles and mistakes, I finally got to check 7, down by 65 minutes. Time to call it quits and head back via the roads. A good decision, as the next section was a tough one with big logs. With nothing to prove there is no point in taking a chance on getting hurt. The final outcome is that I had a good ride, many well wishes and came home with a 3rd place trophy and about 30 pounds of Indiana real estate.

Not that I know of. Check out - Stineback.com - 1710 Monroe St., LaPorte, In., 46350.

To me it is an individual picture, not a poster.
