Allot of people still claim he's a sandbagger... When he rode that KTM in Supercross that thing was a piece of crap... His hand would also go numb, half way through a race, due to nerve damage, and he had to pull off... His carrer was spiriling down... And Mitch Payton called him... Man how could anyone say no to Mitch Payton... If that guy wants you to ride for him, you do it... Grant is fast!!! Outdoors he's amazing too...
Next year what do you think? Will Grant be on a Factory bike next year...

I disagree with the notion that a fast guy who stays in the 125 class is a sandbagger. I like to see two fast classes of racing, much like the old 250 and 500 classes in the Motocross Grands Prix used to be. Was Joel Robert a sandbagger for winning six 250 titles? I'd rather have two series, with fast guys in each, rather than one fast class and a farm league.

Yeah he is planning to move up next year. He is going to fulfill his contractual obligations with Pro Circuit to complete this full season SX and MX and then next year he will see what his options are for a 450 team. It has even been rumored that Pro Circuit is going to be starting a a 450 program and fielding a 450 Team next season and if that is the case he will very likely just stay at Pro Circuit and continue to ride for Mitch Payton.

On a side note, I hope Pro Circuit does field a 450 team it would be good for the sport and add another top level team in the premier class and give guys like Nick Wey who should be on Factory equipment, a top notch ride. Besides Kawasaki could use another top team in the big boy class.

Looks like dante has read the TWMX article, too. Didn't he say he's planning to move up in the next year or two?

yup I read that... I was one of the people who thought GL was a sandbagger... I see it a little differently now...

Exactly .. a World Champion running in our "kids class".

He plans on moving up, or he has to move-up? Isn't he due to point-out sometime this century?

I think the main problem here is that we still think of the 125 class as a stepping stone class. It isn't and never will be again. There are far too many factory dollars being funneled into that class, maybe even more than the 250 class.

Old School: 2 strokes, 250 and 125 classes, 125 SX and Nationals as an entry level class, exhaust issues.

New School: 4 strokes, SX, MX, SX Lites, MX Lites, Lites career riders, noise issues.

Pick a camp.

Some riders are just 125 (Lites) specialists. Look at Lamson, he flat out smoked on a 125 but couldn't ride a big bike. I think there should be 3 classes now. The field is big enough. Make the entry class a bone stock class like at LL's and let the new guys run that.

I don't agree with career 125 riders. A lot of guys are good enough to win titles, but after a bad race, screwing their title hopes all of a sudden they keep having lousy finishes so they don't point out. Maybe the solution is a 125cc two-stroke only 'farm' class, then a 250F and Open class for career guys.

I think this was the ploy by the AMA when they came up with the new class names. Let's face it what racer and Sponsors want to brag about the victory in "lites" class. As in "hey baby, check me I'm a lites champion, what? no this shirt is not gay it's metrosexual!"

in SX it should be a stepping stone class, the only way to get experience in SX is racing the big series. outdoors it doesn't bother me at all

Read the article in TWMX. There is more than one viewpoint on this matter and I think GL has the most important one... his. Its easy to bash on people, but it is hard to admit when you are wrong. I'm figuring that is why it is so rare. Alas, there is logic in his decisions.

Bad year on big KTM's that weren't track ready (apparently Jeremy was on them the year before), couldn't get a decent ride, has to pay the bills, and then Mitch calls. His options were privateer, or small bore factory. The article can be found on page 202 of the May issue of Transworld.
