I picked up a set of MSR Aluminum Dominator handle bars over the weekend to replace the stockers. The stock handle bars have the steel plugs and I didn't want to mess with tapping threads or removing them for my aluminum hand guards.

After installing the handle bars, I noticed that I couldn't get the aluminum hand guards unless I removed the cross bar and pad. The cross bar will not be able to be used if I keep the aluminum hand guards. I'm wondering if this is going to allow the handle bars to bend and or break more easily. Any ideas on this?

My riding is mainly trail riding with jumps no larger than 3-4 feet in height.

If the new bars are standard length (31" or 33" I think) you could look into cutting 1 to 1-1/2" off so the bark busters fit underneath the crossbar. I know of many guys that run standard aftermarket bars with the crossbar removed in MX to minimise the vibration, I would think that you would be ok other than a serious crash, in which I've bent two pair of PT oversize bars so nothing is fair game.
