Headlights and MX Bikes?

I am pretty sure that for your bike http://www.electrexusa.com/technica.htm will be able to provide a lighting coil or E line also do one (the E line one adds weight to your flywheel which you may or may not want and costs a fortune) that gives a lot of wattage. I set up my kx 500 with a electrex lighting coil a single phase regulator/rectifier a 12 volt battery with a OFO Ghibli front light but mine is for the road so you can do without regulator/rectifier and battery. Your bike has no lighting coil... so you can put a headlight on it, but there won't be anything to plug it in to. Moose makes lighting coils for your bike, as well as electrex, and bajadesigns can rewind your stator for lights. To replace the stator, all you need is an 8mm t-handle to remove the ignition cover, and a $10 flywheel puller to remove the flywheel. Retail on a 40 watt lighting coil is around $95 from electrex. Baja Designs sells stators with a 45 watt output for $85. Either of those would be enough to run a normal 35watt enduro light.

Roadrunner, cheers for the message. I will try to answer your questions. When I first got my bike it was registered for the road and it had a battery but it didn't have a lighting coil so it would power its lights for just about long enough to get through its test. So recently I threw away the crap wiring harness and fitted the mods described above but as for now i have not had chance to try it out to be honest. I did have to make a bracket from alloy to fit the coil to the stator plate (For my bike the lighting coil looks just like the ignition coil)to space it out at the ends. As i was fitting a single phase regulator/rectifier the bloke from the company that makes them said I had to isolate the coil from the backplate (why I have no idea) so I used plastic spacers and plastic bushes to do this then took an extra wire off the coil (if this sounds a pain you should try doing it) But if you are not bothered about a battery then will have to make the bracket but you don't need to isolate the backplate, just drill and tap two holes into backplate ( make sure that the coil is closebut not touching the inside of the flywheel) and bolt in place.If I can work out how to send pics then I will send you a diagram and tell you how it all works out.
