I have health insurance through my employer. One of the exclusions is participating in organized racing. Does anyone have experience with this? Can I keep telling them I fell off a ladder each time I get hurt on the track?

I don't exactly have too much experience, but I can tell you this: LIE, LIE, LIE! I dislocated my hip a few months ago wakeboarding and I told the surgeon how it happened. His advice to me was "never do that again", referring to telling the truth about what happened to me. Insurance companies are starting to write exclusions into policies specifically for "extreme" sports. I was lucky that my policy paid for my bills b/c I am currently up to about $15,000. If I end up needing a replacement hip it will be about ten times that amount. So, in summary, next time I get hurt on a bike or wakeboard, or anything like that I won't be telling anyone at the hospital how it happened!;)

call the insurance company, ask if the clause refers specifically to professional racing, etc. Sometimes as long as you're racing on an amateur level, not compensated, just for recreation, it doesn't apply. they don't need to know who you are, just call on an anonymous basis. Refer to the plan you're on (i.e. the "Super Deluxe PPO a la mode"), but don't give them your last name or policy number. That's not always easy to do, especially when calling a cliams dept., so call the agent who sold your employer the policy, make him check for you. He gets paid plenty of scratch to answer those kind of questions.

Yea dont ever tell the doctor or hospital how you actually got hurt.
If you do you become another statistic.
If you are knocked out well thats another story.
I have a seperate disability plan through aflac and it is supposed to pay me a min of $1700.00 a month for up to six months of disability.
The cost is $65.00 per month but it to has a clause about racing, scuba ,hang gliding etc.I do believe the best is the AMA insurance for racing organized events. I have never had to use it but I know those who have.
I got plowed on the start at RED BUD two years ago and my right ankle was twisted out of wack and still gives me trouble. I told the doc I fell up the stairs carrying a load of laundry.
