Can you be more specific about your question regarding the laws here in Texas regarding dirtbikes?

As far as bikes go, check out the What Bike Do I Get... ? forum for tons of great info on bikes. Use search and you will get lost in there for days. :) Check the Help Us Help You ...Hints to help get advice on bikes thread for great information that will help everyone zero in on recommendations.

Although many of us have ATVs, generally they are the work rather than play variety. Here in Texas, neither dirtbikes or ATVs can be licensed for the street and there are no statewide ordinances or laws governing the use of bikes on private property. If you are interested in getting a motorcycle license to ride on the street, there are specific requirements. I would suggest that you consider taking a motorcycle safety course as it is a good way to learn the ins and outs of motorcycles regardless of whether or not you intend to ever get a license.

One last thought ... both you and budhoot should update your user CP to show you location. There are a bunch of folks in Texas, many with kids, that ride all the time. Rather than break laws a risk getting caught, I am sure they would be more than glad to let y'all tag along on rides.

Be glad you live in Texas. Here in Cali they are so strict on us. I am in teh proccess of rebuilding an old bike just so I can ride it year round. Most newer bikes get a red sticker. Red sticker means it can only be riden certain months out of the year at most places. A green sticker means it can be riden year round. All 93 and older bikes get a green sticker. I have an 82 honda xr200r. Green sticker all the way.
