I was wondering what lens you are using these days for the action shots.

The only lens I own worth a damn is the Sigma 70-200 f2.8. It's used for all my MX stuff. I am currently looking at the Canon 24-70 f2.8 to give me more range but am waiting until I see if I get accepted into CPS membership as that provides a pretty hefty discount up here on new equipment purchases. Any sign of your D200 yet?

My Mom just picked up a new Canon lense for her Canon Digital Rebel XT. Not sure on the exact name for the lense but it says Canon zoom lens EF 70-200mm 1:2.8 L IS USM. Suckers huge and weighs a ton. Hopefully she will let me play with it once it warms up. :)

It's still vaporware so far, but the D70S is really nice so I can wait.

I'd like to get some extra reach so I've been looking at the Sigma and Tokina lenses in the 200-300 range. Your pics look great so I figure the Sigma can't be a bad choice .

That's a VERY nice lens.

Richie... and any Canon owners...
When it counts? Here's your sports lens. I dig the advertisement. BTW, the guy in the stands? Nikon user.

After much research on those lenses I figure that Sigma may just be the best bargain out there right now. Treejumper, the lens your mom bought is the grandaddy of 70-200 zooms and the one I would own IF money was no object. The sigma offers similar performance for a fraction of the price. Here is a thread at fred miranda that I was participating in for someone contemplating the Sigma as well http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/353535/2#3012913

WOOOO HOOO :aj: After 2 months of sitting on a waiting list trying to buy my D200 through traditional camera shop channels and no sign of light at the end of the tunnel, I finally gave in and started a hard target search through the super store channels.

After 3 days of watching the Circuit City website at all hours of the night for changing stock levels and calling them repeatedly I finally scored one .

Just got the shipping confirmation e-mail :

Shipped via Premium Air on 2006-02-17
FedEx Tracking Number: xxxxxxxx

quantity 1 Nikon D200 Digital Camera body

I can't wait to compare the D70s with the new one :yeehaw: :yeehaw:

Now I have ZERO excuses for taking crappy pictures. I'm not sure that's a good thing. LOL :)

I'll add to the "I got" thing..
Needed a 35mm prime for my product photography, been using a 50mm for as mch as possible, just too long for a lot of stuff. I've got a 24-70 Sigma that's pretty sweet and noticed I was in the 35mm range a lot with it. Long story, this is another one of those unsung hero canon lenses. Took some test shots... flat-out superior sharpness & color. For $200! Bought it LNIB off a guy on a photog forum, smooth transaction and for sure like new. Very happy. One of these days I'm going to pull the trigger on some L glass.
