1) your physical size (both height and weight are important)
I'm 14 years old, 5'11", and 155lbs

2) How physical / aggressive are you ?
about an 7/10

3) what do you plan to ride- MX/SX tracks, woods, fields with friends or ?????
woods, fields, friends

4) Do you have any riding experience?
rode a quad twice.

5) Do you think you will race ?
probably not

6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work?
I have a 2 stroke 49cc pocketbike I tool around on. But I'm not a real good mechanic. I would need a professional to do it probably.

7) Do YOU have a preferance to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)?
nope

8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) does he carry?
everything

9) How much ($) do you plan to spend on a bike?
less than $1000. I have to pay for it myself =\

10) Do you live in California?
Nope

11) Your age?
14

12) anything else that you think would help form an opinion
I would like a reliable bike that wont be a hassle.

I'm going to have to say run away from any 125 that you can get for $1000 because it's going to need that much to get it back in shape or it's hot. Realize that $1K isn't going to get you much and that you should really be looking at something like a KDX200 or XR250 both of which should still be in reasonable running condition though not pretty by any means. Then go have fun and don't worry about having the blingiest bike out there.

Hhawkk,

I see you're in RI, try the Bargain News (mostly CT, NY, NJ). Some KDX's in there near your $ range (The 1990 looks promising...):

Broaden your search on Craigslist to CT + MA, too. Here's just a few of the KDX's on there:

I'd agree 100% with Patman on skipping the 125 MX'er. $2000 is a more realistic starting price there. And I don't think they're a great choice for beginners. A KDX will be great for starting out on, and have enough power so you're not bored in a month. If you get to the point that you're really pushing the engine/suspension, start looking for the 125 MX bike. If you're not riding MX tracks, you may very well never get to that point. I rode an 83' KDX200 back in the day, and transitioned to 125 MX bikes. I'll probably get some flack for this, but honestly, for anything besides MX tracks, the KDX is a better bike.

Best of luck with your search, and let us know what you end up with.

stay away from 2 strokes....yea they sound cooler, and yea their faster but they require so much work on them, and if you cant do it urself and u have to hire out, its gonna cost you way to much money

actually 2 strokes are better for maintenance. two strokes are very simple and easy to maintain, and cheap compared to four strokes.
