In my opinion, 240lbs is much too heavy for a 125cc machine. He should consider possibly a four stroke as a beginner bike. Probably something like a XR250 or XR 400(consider his weight) or even a YZF250 would be a good bike to begin on. Just my 2 cents....... :)
Yeah if I had a choice I would. I only have 125's. These are my crash and learn bikes. And I dont want to spend too much on a bike just for him to decide he doesnt like riding. Can the shocks and suspension handle is weight?
the bike should hold up fine. there's a guy in my club who's about that big & he smokes people in the a class at hare scrambles on a ratty old 125, just because he can. that whole rider weight/bike size thing is way overrated, imo. it's still riding ability.
DITTO what lawman had to say about the rider/weight overating. I believe it matters a whole lot at the Pro level, however, at the level most of us mortals are at, its all about ability.
